About Dr. King

A Career Dedicated to the Science and Art of Sight

Dr. Augusta Plassman King is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has served the Fairbanks community for more than twenty years. After completing her medical training and ophthalmology residency, she chose Alaska — drawn by the need for specialized eye care in the Interior region.

Her practice encompasses the full breadth of ophthalmology: medical and surgical management of cataract, glaucoma, and retinal disease, along with comprehensive eye examinations for patients from infancy through their golden years. Dr. King is known for taking the time to explain diagnoses in plain language and to involve patients in every treatment decision.

When she is not in the clinic or operating room, Dr. King is an active member of the Alaska Medical Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She lives in the Fairbanks area and understands the unique visual demands of life in the Far North — from extended summer daylight to the challenges of winter driving.

Insurance & Billing

We accept most major insurance plans for medical eye care. Please contact our office to verify your specific plan. Vision insurance is accepted for routine eye exams and eyewear.

What to Bring

To ensure your appointment runs smoothly, please bring the following items to your first visit:

  • Photo identification and insurance card
  • Current list of all medications and dosages
  • Current eyeglasses and contact lens information
  • Referral or authorization if required by your plan
  • Prior eye exam records or imaging, if available

Surgery Day Guidelines

If you are scheduled for cataract or other outpatient eye surgery, please follow these instructions:

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home
  • Avoid wearing makeup, perfumes, or lotions on the day of surgery
  • Follow all pre-operative eye drop instructions exactly
  • Bring your sunglasses — bright light sensitivity is normal after surgery

Our office is open Monday through Friday. Evenings and Saturday appointments may be available by arrangement.

Friday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Saturday – Sunday Closed

For after-hours emergencies, please call our main line. An on-call physician will return your call promptly.
